Speed Test Privacy Policy

Overview

Speed Test ("we", "the app") is published by Yoraba. This policy describes how the app handles information on iOS and Android. We do not require an account. We do not operate a backend. The app has no analytics SDK. Your data stays on your device, except for the test traffic and advertising described below.

Information stored on your device

Test history: the date, download speed, upload speed, ping, jitter, bufferbloat grade, connection type (Wi-Fi, Cellular, Ethernet, or Other), and app version of each test. Stored locally. Clear all history in Settings.
Preferences: your speed unit choice (Mbps or MB/s).

History does not include your IP address, location, or Wi-Fi network name.

Speed test traffic

To measure speed, the app sends requests to Cloudflare speed test servers (speed.cloudflare.com). If those are unavailable, it falls back, in order, to Google (www.google.com), OVH (proof.ovh.net), httpbin (httpbin.org), and finally our own server (api.techflak.com). As with any web request, the receiving server sees your IP address and standard connection information, and handles it under its own privacy policy (Cloudflare, Google, OVH). We do not send your test results to any server.

On cellular connections, tests are shorter and capped in size to limit data use. Low Data Mode (iOS) and Data Saver (Android) are respected: the app asks before running a test.

Permissions

Network access (Android: Internet and network state): to run speed tests and detect whether you are on Wi-Fi, cellular, or Ethernet.
iOS: the app requests no permissions that show a prompt.
In-app purchases (Android: Billing): to process tip purchases through Google Play.

The app does not access your camera, microphone, contacts, photos, location, or Wi-Fi network name.

Advertising

The app shows Google AdMob banner ads on the test results screen and the History screen. Ads are not shown during a test, on the Tip Jar, or in Settings. Once you tip, ads are removed.

AdMob may collect device identifiers and ad interaction data according to Google's privacy policy and your device settings (including App Tracking Transparency on iOS). You can limit personalised ads in your device settings or through Google Ad Settings.

In-app purchases

Tips are one-time, non-consumable purchases processed by Apple or Google. We do not receive your payment card details. The platform may share purchase entitlement with the app so it can remove ads.

Children's privacy

Speed Test is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The "Last updated" date will change. Continued use of the app after updates means you accept the changes.
