Frequently Asked Questions

My TV is not found. What should I check?

Your phone and TV must be on the same Wi-Fi network. Guest networks and some routers block devices from seeing each other, so try the main network. Make sure the TV is on (not in deep standby) and, on iPhone and iPad, that Local Network access is allowed for TV Remote in Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network. If scanning still finds nothing, open Find TV and enter the TV's IP address manually (on the TV: Settings > Network).

The TV shows a message asking me to allow something.

On Samsung and LG TVs, the first connection shows a prompt on the TV screen. Use the TV's own remote and choose Allow (or Accept). The app remembers the TV afterwards. If you declined, connect again and accept the prompt.

Which TVs are supported?

Samsung TVs with Tizen, LG TVs with webOS and Roku TVs and players. Android TV, Google TV, Fire TV, Apple TV and Vizio are not supported. The app uses Wi-Fi only; it has no infrared (IR) blaster and cannot control devices that are not on your network.

Does it work away from home or without Wi-Fi?

No. TV Remote talks directly to the TV on your local network. There is no cloud service.

How does the Keyboard work?

On the TV, open a search box and press OK so the on-screen keyboard appears. Then open the Keyboard from the Remote screen and type; the text is sent to the TV's field. This is best-effort: it works on many models but not on every TV, and some Samsung models do not accept text. If it does not work, use the TV's own on-screen keyboard with the touch pad.

What can I say to Voice?

Try "open Netflix", "volume 40", "mute" or "go home". Anything else is typed into the TV's search field. Voice uses your phone's speech recognition; the app asks for Microphone and Speech Recognition permission on iPhone.

How accurate is the volume control?

On Samsung TVs the app reads and sets the real volume. On LG and Roku TVs the TV does not report its volume to the app, so the on-screen level is an estimate; the +, − and mute buttons always work.

Why does the touch pad sometimes feel different from my TV's remote?

Swipe up, down, left or right to move, and tap to press OK. Each move gives a small haptic tick, which you can turn off in Settings.

Do I have to pay? What are tips?

The app is free and shows a banner ad on the Remote screen. The Tip Jar has four optional one-time tips: Coffee $0.99, Cake $2.99, Lunch $4.99, Feast $9.99 (prices vary by country). Any tip removes ads permanently. There is no subscription.

How do I restore my purchase?

Open More > Tip Jar and tap Restore Purchases. Use the same Apple ID (iPhone, iPad) or Google account (Android) that made the purchase.

Where is my data stored?

Saved TVs and settings stay on your device only. There is no account and no backup on our side. Read the Privacy Policy.

Is TV Remote affiliated with TV brands?

No. TV Remote is an independent app and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Samsung, LG, Roku, Netflix, Google or any other brand named.
